I saw this play at the Ivoryton Playhouse in Essex, Ct. last Saturday night. The performances were stellar and unbelievable. Guitars, violins while singing and dancing and playing the tunes of Johnny Cash's life. A wonderful night. I am bringing all of my family 7 of us on Labor Day weekend to see it again that is how much I enjoyed the show. My dad was a musician and a guitar player among the many talents he had. This included singing so of course my entire family is all into the whole thing. John McCormack was a gifted tenor. We all knew this. He would have loved this show.
We have many, many talented off spring of my dad and many gifted and talented youth who play way beyond their years. We are so proud of them. My niece plays viola in orchestra and goes to camp at Syracuse, NY and she is only 11. My nephew won an award as the most gifted student in his orchestra at only age 14 on guitar and trumpet. My own son is a music minor a college as a bio/Chem major and his sister has been told she could go professional if she really wanted to pursue that career. She is a natural on clarinet. He fingers fly like you cannot believe. However, I spend a lot of money on private music lessons, don't be fooled. A ton.
When music runs in the family is as natural as breathing. Although I do not possess this talent I love music and love classical, opera and techno to dance to at tea dance. I was a dancer in college but decided to not pursue that line of work. My love of music through my family extends over to family reunions (we have to perform sometimes at reunions if you are talented in the mountains of Vermont.) It is all good. My aunt sang at my wedding the most beautiful of Ave Maria's you have ever heard.
When I was growing up as a child, my grandmother McCormack always had entertainment in her home. And they were relatives. She had a large Victorian home in Vermont and we would sit I remember in the extremely large living room with a white piano or on the very large screened porch and listen to singers (her people). My father told me he had to perform at a young age as a singer for his father's clients to entertain them when they came over to the house for dinner.
What is up with that? My musical family. To this day they sing and sing. And they sound like angels. When I got married and walked down the aisle to my own aunt singing like an opera star I was one happy and proud camper.
