Our annual trip to Block Island, Rhode Island.

Click here for The Atlantic Inn's webpage and more information.

Every year in the month of May my five girlfriends from college and I head out for a weekend on Block Island off the coast of Rhode Island. It is just us girls and it is a ton of fun. Most were in nursing school together, some were not. Inevitably the subjects range from our families to what is happening at various labs and hospitals. Never a boring moment that's for sure. We laugh and laugh and basically just hang out for the weekend. And I am talking sore throat laughing and talking variety by the time we arrive back by Point Judith, RI. on Sunday.

We have been going now for 15 years and we always stay at the same hotel, "The Atlantic Inn". It's a very nice hotel with lovely rooms with views of the countryside and the ocean. and a stellar restaurant to boot. The Inn has English style gardens all around it in the springtime and a llama farm across the street which I like to visit.

In the fifteen years we have been traveling out on Friday evening the seas have been calm and have been as rough as this. Hopefully for my friends' sake it will be calm this year. I am one of the lucky ones who is not really affected by seasickness. Also the ride is only one hour.

I'm sure the tulips and hyacinths will be in full bloom when we get there.

The typically red sand and rocky coast of Block Island.

One of the lighthouses.

Sometimes we climb these stairs for exercise depending on the weather. Usually though we ride our bikes because this time of year there are almost no cars on the island. It is quiet, green and peaceful.

Above is Old Harbor and one of the main streets in the 'town". Lots of cute shops and great restaurants. Our favorite is Ely's. Second favorite is Mohegan, more of a bar than a restaurant but always our Friday night stop. They always give the same table to "The Connecticut Ladies".
Could it be that we laugh so much? We are like dogs off the leash!! Pretty dogs of course...eh hem...

As you can see there are some great places to ride a bike or just hang out on our little tiny island.
