The Central Park Zoo. Hey where's Melman?

Saturday afternoon we went to the Central Park Zoo. When you go to this particular zoo it is for me not just to see the animals. The park itself has is surrounded by beautiful architecture and is full of wonderful gardens of plants from all over the world. There is a clock called The Delacorte Clock that has dancing animals that plays music while the large bronze animals twirl and spin on the hour high above your head. Click here for more information on the Delacorte Clock at the Central Park Zoo.

People speaking different languages with their children from all parts of the globe are enjoying themselves eating ice pops or having some lemonade in the shade during their visit to the zoo. It was a hot day but not humid at all for this Labor Day weekend and my youngest thoroughly enjoyed himself. We saw a snow leopard, a couple of polar bears, a red panda (that looks nothing like a regular panda), lots and lots of turtles and snow monkeys, some sea lions doing tricks and of course the penguins.

At the end of the trip my son said to me. "Hey, they made the movie "Madagascar" about the animals at the Central Park Zoo. But there was no Melman the giraffe!"

My son.

I loved this carving by the snow leopard's field. Her name is Zoe and she was resting in the shade for a long time but finally came out. Her tail was magnificent!

This young snow monkey was funny. He had a plastic cup and he was playing keep away with two other young monkeys. The one in the "middle" was so frustrated he started to bang his head against the tree! Those mean big brothers!

The musical clock was wonderful. All the children clapped at the end. Click here to see a video that I did not take but is similar of the lovely movement of the clock the the chimes. And the excitement of the children in the background!

My companion is pointing the way...You can see by the blue sky it was a beautiful day in the city.

The architecture at the Central Park Zoo is of course amazing. Lots of places to sit and relax and just read one of the many Buddhist sayings that are posted along the paths. Or to sit and contemplate the day.

Feeding time at the sea lion pool is always a treat for people young and old. The sea lions are such characters. One could balance a pink ball on his nose. They certainly love fish!
